Our dad began to perform in public in the 40’s.  At many local venues, he shared his gifts of playing mandolin singing the high bluegrass tenor, and interjecting his homespun comedy.  Dad was privileged to share the stage with many fellow bluegrass lovers & performers from Lancaster, Lebanon, and Berks Counties.  We mention some of them here because of dad’s long relationship with these fine persons, many who have gone on to the “Land Where We’ll Never Grow Old.”   Among them:  Harold Weaver (Bud & Bill), Pauline “Polly” Good/Martin, Jimmy Knight, Warren Boyer, J.R. Martin,  Conley Forester, (Virginia Plowboys) David & Ivan Burkholder, J.R. Martin, Richard Burkhart, and Elvin Burkhart (Golden Valley Boys).

Many  Folk to this day tell us they saw our dad play at local gatherings over the years, and how they enjoyed him on stage.  Some of the public stages he performed on: Sunset Park, Rocky Springs, Himmelwrights Grove, Shindig in the barn, Campell’s Corner, Radio shows on WEEU / Reading, WLBR / Lebanon, many countless spelling bees, at Hinkletown School & Lincoln Fire Hall to name a few.

Our attempt in making our first CD, and the subsequent formation of The Horst Brothers is to keep dad’s memory alive in people’s hearts and minds.  As his sons, and grandson, future generations of bluegrass lovers, we will keep Ivan’s (Bill, Little Willie’s) music going long after he is gone.
